Current technology in ion and electrothermal propulsion

Abstract: As Earth-orbital and interplanetary spacecraft missions become longer and more complex, the demands placed on spacecraft propulsion systems become much more stringent. In several instances, combinations of mission and spacecraft requirements such as weight, size, life, and total impulse have precluded the use of the more conventional chemical, and cold gas propulsive systems.
