“…In most articles (74.4%) the diagnosis was established only by positive urine culture, but in seven articles (17.9%) positive direct smears were also used and in three articles (7.7%) published in 2000, 2006 and 2007, the patients were also diagnosed through nucleic acid amplification tests. In one of these articles, all but one of 12 patients were diagnosed using the nucleic acid amplification tests, suggesting that this technique could become the urogenital tuberculosis diagnosis method of choice 44 .
