Current Status and Prospects of Clinical Treatment of Osteosarcoma

Abstract: Osteosarcoma, one of the common malignant tumors in the skeletal system, originates in mesenchymal tissue, and the most susceptible area of occurrence is the metaphysis with its abundant blood supply. Tumors are characterized by highly malignant spindle stromal cells that can produce bone-like tissue. Most of the osteosarcoma are primary, and a few are secondary. Osteosarcoma occurs primarily in children and adolescents undergoing vigorous bone growth and development. Most cases involve rapid tumor development… Show more

“…Neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery, and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy are the accepted standard modalities for the treatment of localized osteosarcoma. High-dose methotrexate (HD-MTX), cisplatin (DDP), adriamycin (ADM), ifosfamide (IFO), epirubicin (EPI), and etoposide (VP-16) are commonly used for osteosarcoma chemotherapy [ 12 ]. The MAP regimen composed of HD-MTX, DDP, and ADM is the standard regimen of most treatment centers in Europe and America.…”

“…Non-invasive or minimally invasive ablation techniques, like radiofrequency, thermal, cryoablation, high-intensity focused ultrasound, and microwave ablation, have higher success rates in managing OS than traditional approaches [37,38]. However, as their effectiveness depends on variable factors such as the patient's temperature tolerance and the treatment's ability to penetrate bone tissue, it is challenging to standardize a treatment protocol for OS patients [39].…”
