Current status and prospects of diabetes mellitus induced erectile dysfunction: A bibliometric and visualization study

Abstract: BackgroundThe prevalence of diabetes mellitus-induced erectile dysfunction (DMED) has recently increased, which has prompted numerous DMED studies. Here, we conduct a bibliometric analysis of relevant literature in the field of DMED and to discuss the research hotspots and future development directions.MethodsThe Web of Science Core Collection database was searched for literature on DMED, and literature characterization including the number of articles, journals, countries/regions, institutions, authors, keywo… Show more

“…Smoking, alcoholism, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and hyperlipidemia are all risk factors for ED and CHD. The pathogenesis is related to a decrease in vasodilatory factors (nitric oxide, hydrogen sulfide) and an increase in vasoconstrictive factors (angiotensin II, endothelin 1, and aldosterone) ( 32 ), which involves various pathways, such as oxidative stress and endothelial damage, neurovascular damage and repair, and endocrine dysfunction ( 33 , 34 ). With regard to anxiety and depressive states, the degree of ED increases with the degree of anxiety and depression in patients; anxiety and depressive states can significantly lead to psychogenic ED, and brain network analysis in this group of patients shows obvious abnormalities ( 35 ).…”

“…However, WOS is the most authoritative and comprehensive database to date and is commonly used for scientometric analysis. [ 35 ] Second, a few related articles published in Chinese were excluded, which may have influenced our conclusions. Furthermore, owing to the rapid development of nonpharmaceutical TCM therapies for RA, related research is frequently updated.…”

“…The program has three visualization modules: network, overlay, and density. A density visualization map was used to show the frequency of keywords in a certain study region, with the size of the circle denoting frequency and the color denoting density (Wang et al, 2018;Guan et al, 2021;Zhang et al, 2022;Xiao, 2023;Braun, 2022;Zhang, 2023). The intensity view is important because each point in the network map has a different meaning in terms of the hue.…”
