Korea is a very well-known country for having abundant tidal current energy resources. There are many attractive coastal areas for the tidal current power that have very strong currents due to the high tidal range and the acceleration through the narrow channels between islands in the west and south coasts of the Korean peninsula. Recently, the Korean government announced a plan that aims to increase the portion of electricity generated from renewable energy to 20% by 2030. Korea has abundant tidal current energy resources; however, as reliable resource assessment results of tidal current energy are not sufficient, the portion of tidal current power is very small in the plan. Therefore, a reliable resource assessment should be conducted in order to provide a basis for the development plan. This paper describes the resource assessment of tidal current energy in Korea based on the observational data provided by KHOA (Korean Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency) and numerical simulation of water circulation. As the observational data were unable to present the detailed distribution of the complicated tidal current between islands, numerical simulation of water circulation was used to describe the detailed distribution of tidal current in Incheon-Gyeonggi and Jeollanam-do, where the tidal energy potentials are abundant. The west and south coastal areas of Korea were divided into seven regions according to the administrative district, and the theoretical tidal current potential was calculated using average power intercepted. The results of this research can provide the insight of the tidal current energy development plan in Korea.

The demonstrated existence of vast brine pools in a number of places in the ocean basin around the world offers an interesting opportunity to the production of power from ocean, which has not been yet considered. The attractiveness of these vast deposits of brine lie in the fact that can be readily dissolved with the surrounding top waters extracting the spontaneous osmotic mixing energy released. In addition, osmotic engines can pumped out the brackish streams by buoyancy without the add of pressure exchangers (PEXs) as is required in current pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) technology and then simplifying significatively the overall process. Utilizing a simplified physical model, a first estimation for the density of power per unit of membrane area was calculated. Interest in the use of alternative renewable energy resources has been developed recently due to increased energy consumption and depletion of fossil fuel reserves. A major concern the world to reduce is dependence impact from fossil fuel consumption with renewable energy. Renewable energy sources have enormous economic, environmental benefits and provide energy security. The most potential renewable energy sources of ocean energy include Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). OTEC is a technology to generate electricity using a heat source thermal energy stored in the sea and is becoming increasingly attractive option to supply additional energy for many tropical countries and islands such as Riau Islands. Two monitoring stations were collected in Bintan Island using CTD. CTD profiler allows to the determination of derived and relevant quantities in situ measurement ocean temperature per depth. The relationship between ocean temperature and ocean depth represented with Regression Model Fit Analysis (RMFA). RMFA models to estimates ocean temperature profiles from CTD measurements. To predict ocean depths up to 2000 meters using Equation of State Model (EoSM) of ocean water. The OTEC efficiency value can be calculated using the equation of Carnot efficiency (η). Carnot efficiency maximum in Riau Island is η <0.7.
