How do social movements develop and sustain their territoriality within large-scale organisations? This study explores the emergence of resistive movements in organisations counteracting a new administrative regime with a relational approach to territoriality in the physical and virtual environments. Drawing, maintaining, and changing boundaries in physical and virtual spaces are crucial in organisational resistance. However, the extant literature mostly overlooks these topics. This paper shows how collective actors form a resistive movement in organisations through territoriality with a qualitative study conducted in two Turkish Universities. The study findings show territoriality provides more than a space of isolation and this space has no fixed resistive boundaries. Territorialisation within and out of organisational spaces, covering physical and virtual environments, supports the development of a resistive identity. Our comparative analysis of two movements in universities shows that territoriality in the physical world is essential. However, territorialisation in the virtual environment helps resistive identities in organisations to last even their physical activities fade. Moreover, territorialisation in physical and virtual spaces communicating the movement’s message to mobilise others varies according to the different stages of the movement’s lifespan. In addition, this study indicates how the activities of social movements of organisational actors in physical and virtual environments interrelate.

We used a pretest-posttest, control group design to evaluate a psychoeducational career construction counseling course for ninth-grade students at two high schools in Northern Cyprus. The 80 participants were randomly assigned to experimental (n = 42) and control (n = 38) groups. Each group completed pre-and posttest measures of future orientation, career adaptability, life satisfaction, and belief in achieving their dreams. The experimental group received the five-session course, whereas the control group received one session about stress and test anxiety. Results indicated significant increases in scores on all measures for the experimental group only. Future studies should include long-term effects of the group program based on career construction theory.

Strategies for student engagement in remote online learning. A case study of Northern Cyprus

In unprecedented times like this when societies are experiencing lockdowns, social, and physical distancing, remote online learning becomes the only option for most educational institutions. There is a need for English Language Teaching practitioners to devise strategic means either through technology or without to meaningfully engage the students. This study examines learners’ engagement strategies used during remote online learning at Northern Cyprus. To achieve this, a mixed research design was used to elicit information from 63 ELT teachers who were purposively chosen for this research. A 3-credit English language course was used for the study. The course was taught and teachers deployed the use of engagement tools, skills, and resources during the remote online learning teaching period, which lasted for 8 weeks and 2 days. A structured questionnaire consisting of two sections; A and B were used to elicit information on the resources used for student engagements and its effectiveness as well while a semi-structured interview question was used to interview randomly chosen participants. These instruments were faced, and the construct validated while the questionnaire was piloted, a Cronbach alpha reliability index of 0.77 was obtained. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the questionnaire to determine the mean responses of the participants with regards to resources used for student engagement and their effectiveness. Findings obtained were used to conclusions that online resources like Padlets, Mentimeter, nearpod, Flipgrid, Zoom breakout room are effective and efficient tool for student engagement during remote online learning. Project based learning and collaborative based teaching are strategies that could be adopted to enhance student engagement while teaching
