Background A large number of studies related to ultrasound-based radiomics have been published in recent years; however, a systematic bibliometric analysis of this topic has not yet been conducted. In this study, we attempted to identify the hotspots and frontiers in ultrasound-based radiomics through bibliometrics and to systematically characterize the overall framework and characteristics of studies through mapping and visualization. Methods A literature search was carried out in Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database from January 2016 to December 2023 according to a predetermined search formula. Bibliometric analysis and visualization of the results were performed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R, and other platforms. Results Ultimately, 466 eligible papers were included in the study. Publication trend analysis showed that the annual publication trend of journals in ultrasound-based radiomics could be divided into three phases: there were no more than five documents published in this field in any year before 2018, a small yearly increase in the number of annual publications occurred between 2018 and 2022, and a high, stable number of publications appeared after 2022. In the analysis of publication sources, China was found to be the main contributor, with a much higher number of publications than other countries, and was followed by the United States and Italy. Frontiers in Oncology was the journal with the highest number of papers in this field, publishing 60 articles. Among the academic institutions, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences ranked as the top three in terms of the number of documents. In the analysis of authors and cocited authors, the author with the most publications was Yuanyuan Wang, who has published 19 articles in 8 years, while Philippe Lambin was the most cited author, with 233 citations. Visualization of the results from the cocitation analysis of the literature revealed a strong centrality of the subject terms papillary thyroid cancer, biological behavior, potential biomarkers, and comparative assessment, which may be the main focal points of research in this subject. Based on the findings of the keyword analysis and cluster analysis, the keywords can be categorized into two major groups: (I) technological innovations that enable the construction of radiomics models such as machine learning and deep learning and (II) applications of predictive models to support clinical decision-making in certain diseases, such as papillary thyroid cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and breast cancer. Background Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease, with an increasing prevalence worldwide, but its pathomechanisms remain incompletely understood. Accumulating evidence suggests that immunity plays an important role in the development of DN. Many papers have been published in the field over the last 20 years, but there has been no bibliometric review of the research hotspots and trends in the field. This study aimed to assess the current research status and future trends of the link between immune and DN using bibliometric analysis. Methods Publications on the association between immunity and DN from 2004 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database and screened according to inclusion criteria. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were employed to visualize research trends and hotspots in the field. Data including author, institution, country, journal, reference, and keyword were analyzed. Results Ultimately 1246 publications meeting the criteria were included in the bibliometric analysis, involving 838 articles (84.96%) and 408 reviews (15.04%). The literature covered 81 countries and regions, 1751 institutions, and 6584 authors. The top 2 countries in terms of the number of publications were China (435) and the United States (318), and they collaborated most frequently. The United States had the highest number of citations for published papers (18,161), far exceeding the other countries. England had 38 publications but had the highest average number of citations (92.32). The University of California system was the most prolific institution (25 papers, 1062 citations, 42.48 citations per paper). Frontiers in Immunology was the most prolific journal in the field (30 papers). The most cited journal was Kidney International (863 citations). The analysis of keywords and references showed that inflammation, ferroptosis, and lipid metabolism may be future research hotspots in this field. Conclusions The number of publications related to immunity and DN has increased annually over the past 20 years, with a significant increase in the last 3 years especially. Our results identified research hotspots and trends in the field. These findings provide valuable perspectives for future research, enhancing our understanding of the immune-related mechanisms of DN and exploring potential therapeutic strategies.

BackgroundThe impact of micronutrients, including vitamins and minerals, on different kidney diseases has been reported in some observational studies; however, their causal relationship remains uncertain. We aimed to ascertain the causal genetic relationships between micronutrients and different kidney diseases using the Mendelian randomization (MR) method.MethodsInstrumental variables (IVs) for genetically predicting calcium (Ca), iron (Ir), Zinc (Zn), selenium (Se), copper (Cu), vitamin D (Vit D), and vitamin C (Vit C) levels in humans were obtained, and a bidirectional two-sample MR was used to examine potential associations between the levels of these seven micronutrients and the risk of seven different kidney diseases including hypertensive renal disease, diabetic nephropathy, IgA nephropathy, membranous nephropathy, cystic nephropathy, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and chronic tubulo-interstitial nephritis. Five different MR analyses were conducted, with the main method being the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method. Moreover, sensitivity analyses were performed to assess heterogeneity and potential pleiotropy.ResultsThe IVW method revealed that Ca levels were associated with a decreased risk of hypertensive renal disease (OR = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.40–0.93, p-value = 0.022), and Se levels were associated with a decreased risk of hypertensive renal disease (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.53–0.99, p-value = 0.040), diabetic nephropathy (OR = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.73–0.93, p-value = 0.002), and CKD (OR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.77–0.99, p-value = 0.028). Conversely, Vit D levels were associated with an increased risk of polycystic kidney disease (OR = 1.76, 95% CI: 1.15–2.69, p-value = 0.0095). In addition, no potential causal relationship was found between vitamin C levels, iron levels, zinc levels, and copper levels and different kidney diseases. Meanwhile, inverse Mendelian randomization showed no potential causal relationship between different chronic kidney diseases and micronutrients. The Cochrane’s Q test, MR-Egger regression, and MR-PRESSO did not suggest heterogeneity and pleiotropy, providing evidence of the validity of the MR estimates.ConclusionOur results indicate a cause-and-effect connection between micronutrients and certain kidney diseases, but additional study is required to provide more conclusive evidence. This research has the potential to assist clinicians in managing the consumption of specific micronutrients among individuals with chronic kidney diseases, as well as in promoting disease prevention among both healthy populations and those who are susceptible to chronic underlying conditions.
