Clinico‐etiologic profile of hand dermatitis and patch response of patients at a tertiary hospital in Lagos, Nigeria: results of a prospective observational study

This study suggests reduction in the prevalence of nickel dermatitis over the years in Nigeria as opposed to reports from other parts of the world where nickel sulfate is still the most frequently occurring allergen . A few studies have also reported a decrease in the prevalence of nickel allergy as a direct result of regulatory interventions in Germany and the Netherlands on the use of nickel in consumer products.…”

[2][3][4] The second and third commonest allergens, methyldibromo glutaronitrile (MDBGN) and formaldehyde, probably reflect a large number of patients with cosmetic and self-hygiene product allergies in our study. The fourth-ranking allergen, chromate, as in other studies, more frequently caused allergy in males, especially those with foot dermatitis (most people wear leather shoes).…”
