“…Four studies 22,26,27,32 were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared the intervention group with a control group. Eighteen studies 6,[17][18][19][20][21][23][24][25][28][29][30][31][33][34][35][36][37] were observational studies using a single group prepost design, and one study was a descriptive study analyzing audio-recorded video coaching. 9 The different types of reported outcomes were categorized largely based on Kirkpatrick's model of training evaluation.…”

“…19,20,22,27,29-32,34,35,37 Thirteen of the studies deployed an experienced surgeon as coach either on his or her own or in combination with a nonsurgeon. 9,[17][18][19][24][25][26]29,[32][33][34]36,37 Only 4 studies conducted a follow-up after coaching intervention. 6,25,27,32 Overall, coaching was considered to be effective in 15 of the 23 studies.…”

“…Vascular surgeons who once provided only surgical therapy, now almost universally offer endovascular interventions and bypass surgery. 22,23 Invasive cardiologists effective in translating lessons learned in the coronaries to the periphery, 24 have identified the treatment of PAD as an important element of cardiovascular care. Lastly, competition and variation between treatment providers has also likely played a role in the expansion of endovascular interventions.…”

“…[17][18][19] Developments in endovascular technology as well as the rapid and successful dissemination of endovascular skills to vascular surgeons has allowed for the application of these techniques as the initial diagnostic and therapeutic intervention in the continuum of care that a surgeon provides for these patients. [20][21][22] At our institution, like many major centers, percutaneous revascularization has evolved over the last 5 years into the primary modality for treating lower extremity occlusive disease, with open surgical bypass reserved for those patients who fail percutaneous intervention.…”
