Current developments at IRSN on computational tools dedicated to assessing doses for both internal and external exposure

Abstract: The paper presents the OEDIPE (French acronym that stands for tool for personalised internal dose assessment) and SESAME (for simulation of external source accident with medical images) computational tools, dedicated to internal and external dose assessment, respectively, and currently being developed at the Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety. The originality of OEDIPE and SESAME, by using voxel phantoms in association with Monte Carlo codes, lies in their ability to construct personalise… Show more

“…A dosimetry tool called OEDIPE (4, 25, 26) has been developed by the group at Nantes, France to carry out personalized internal dosimetry calculations for nuclear medicine and for radiation safety (in the case of internal contamination). The software creates anthropomorphic voxel-based phantoms from computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) patient images through the use of a friendly graphical user interface (GUI).…”

“…OEDIPE is based on a Graphical User Interface developed under the IDL environment (Franck et al, 2001;Borisov et al, 2002Borisov et al, , 2005de Carlan, 2004;Aubineau-Laniece et al, 2005a, 2005bPierrat et al, 2005;de Carlan et al, 2005). The software's main goals are the fast creation of voxel phantoms and the automatic writing of the input file for the Monte Carlo calculation code used to simulate particle transport through the matter (MCNP or MCNPX, Hughes et al, 1997;Briesmeister, 2000).…”

“…Then a friendly Graphical User Interface was developed using person-specific computational phantoms in association with the MCNP calculation code. This interface called OEDIPE (French acronym for "tool for personalized internal dose assessment") allows in vivo measurement to be simulated for an improved calibration (Franck et al, 2001;Borisov et al, 2002Borisov et al, , 2005de Carlan, 2004;Aubineau-Laniece et al, 2005a, 2005b.…”

“…Cet outil convivial permet soit de réaliser une simulation de mesure anthroporadiamétrique , soit d'effectuer un calcul de dose (fonctionnalité non détaillée dans cet article) (Aubineau-Lanièce et al, 2004). Le principal intérêt de cet outil est de créer de façon automatique le fichier d'entrée MCNP à partir de différents paramètres nécessaires à la simulation.…”
