“…Refs. [165,166] reported the presence of halogenated monoterpenes myrcene (one cyclic and three acyclic) in the seaweed Ochtodes secundiramea. Sesquiterpene elatol is a significant secondary metabolite identified in the red seaweed Laurencia dendroidea that protects against herbivory and fouling [167].…”

“…The choice of cultivation conditions for species was based on temperature and salinity data recorded in the field, as well as previous studies in which brown algal species were maintained in the laboratory, such as D. menstrualis itself and the type species of the genus, Dictyota dichotoma. Much of the work consulted opted to maintain specimens in Provasoli culture media (Soe Pa Kyaw et al, 2009;Bogaert et al, 2016), at a temperature of 20°C, constant aeration, and a light intensity of 80 µE.m -2 .s -1 (Bogaert et al, 2016;Martins et al, 2016;Obando et al, 2022b) Photographic images were taken of some individuals within the 21 days of cultivation to monitor conditions and morphological changes (Figure 1). In the field, individuals of D. menstrualis showed very thin thalli with abnormal tips and margins and had a slimy texture, which was also reflected in the morphology of individuals in the experimental units, because the individuals monitored in vitro continued to present such characteristics, a result of their health condition in the natural environment and accentuated in the process of adaptation to the system (Figures 1F, G).…”

“…The growing demand and sustainable supply and availability of high-quality seaweed seedlings for metabolite obtaining still face many barriers. One solution for producing high quality seaweed seedlings is tissue culture or micropropagation (Obando et al, 2022b). However, there is a path to follow before embarking on this type of cultivation.…”

“…Many articles on the biological activities of diterpenes produced by algae of the Dictyoteae tribe have already been published. These studies include those with antitumor, antibacterial, and antifungal substances [ 45 , 46 , 47 ].…”
