Current and Emerging Strategies for Prediction and Diagnosis of Prelabour Rupture of the Membranes: A Narrative Review

Abstract: Prelabour rupture of membranes (PROM) refers to the disruption of foetal membranes before the onset of labour, resulting in the leakage of amniotic fluid. PROM complicates 3% and 8% of preterm and term pregnancies, respectively. Accurate and timely diagnosis is crucial for effective management to prevent adverse maternal- and foetal-outcomes. The diagnosis of equivocal PROM cases with traditional methods often becomes challenging in current obstetrics practice; therefore, various novel biochemical markers have… Show more

“…Due to the lack of accurate and early prediction of the outbreak window, we can hardly intervene early in the occurrence of premature rupture of membranes [ 39 , 40 ], and only empiric treatment after the occurrence of the disease can maximize the maternal and fetal outcomes; as a classical obstetric practice, there have been no significant changes for the last many years [ 4 ]. Therefore, we are committed to finding the key to initiate premature rupture of membranes.…”

“…16 Second, multiple gestations were not always an appropriate candidate for vaginal delivery. 17 Third, premature rupture of the membranes was a common indication for labor induction, 1 yet approximately 70% of women with ruptured membranes had spontaneous labor within 24 h. 18,19 In light of all these considerations, we have selectively enrolled studies with patients who were at least late preterm (GA ≥34 weeks), had singleton pregnancies and had intact membranes before labor induction. Non-randomized clinical trials, pregnant women with GA ≥36 weeks.…”

“…ПРПО является одной из наиболее актуальных проблем современного акушерства. По данным литературы, ПРПО осложняет течение 3-4% всех беременностей и до 40% -недоношенных [1], повышает риск возникновения перинатальных и материнских осложнений [2].…”
