Curcumin and Thymoquinone Combination Attenuates Breast Cancer Cell Lines’ Progression

Abstract: Breast cancer is the most harmful malignancy in women worldwide. Therefore, in the current study, we investigated the combinatory effect of natural bioactive compounds, including curcumin (Cur) and thymoquinone (TQ), on MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines’ progression. We investigated the Fa values and combination index of Cur and TQ in this context. Moreover, cytotoxicity percentages, annexin-V, proliferation, colony formation, and migration assays were used along with cell cycle analysis. In additio… Show more

“…[20][21][22][23][24] Recent studies have highlighted curcumin's antiproliferative and antimotility effects on breast cancer cells, yet the intricate molecular mechanisms underlying these actions require further elucidation. [25][26][27] Therefore, exploring curcumin's influence on cell motility, proliferation, cell cycle, and apoptosis, particularly in TNBC, and uncovering its molecular underpinnings are of paramount clinical relevance.…”

“…Data suggest that proteasome-mediated downregulation of cyclin E and upregulation of CDC inhibitors contribute to the antiproliferative effects of CUR [ 58 ]. A combination of CUR and thymoquinone against BC decreased caspase-3, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), and protein kinase B (AKT) protein levels, which is strongly related to P21 [ 59 ] ( Figure 3 ).…”

“…Due to inducing the expression of miR-34a, the tumor growth and invasion had suppressed [ 55 ]. Another study examined the synergistic effect of curcumin and thymoquinone (TQ), on the development of MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell lines [ 56 ]. Moreover, this compound and gemcitabine prevented the development, invasion, and metastasis of the pancreatic cancer orthotopic model.…”
