PurposeThis article analyzes the relationships between different conceptions of time, socioeconomic development and cultural values.Design/methodology/approachWe focus on three major aspects of time, namely, 1) duration, 2) orientation and 3) tempo. Furthermore, we draw on modernization theory to distinguish between agrarian/traditional and industrial/modern societies and their respective cultural values.FindingsAnalyses indicate that agrarian/traditional societies with cultural values such as collectivism, survival, religiosity and hierarchical structures are marked by subjective/cyclical/inaccurate, past-oriented and slow-paced conceptions of time. In contrast, industrial/modern societies with cultural values such as individualism, self-expression, secularism and egalitarianism are marked by objective/linear/accurate, future-oriented and accelerated conceptions of time.Originality/valueThis paper introduces an original conceptualization of the three dimensions of time – duration, orientation and tempo – previously overlooked in the literature. Additionally, it provides an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the relationships between time, culture and socioeconomic development.

Purpose: The research aims to identify patterns and trends in attendance management through the application of reward and punishment systems as innovative solutions for improving employee attendance and well-being. Methods: This research utilizes a descriptive analysis approach with the application of Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance the accuracy of attendance pattern prediction and ML models for the classification of emerging trends and patterns. Research data were obtained through the company's attendance system and divided into two segments (80% for training and 20% for testing) while maintaining a balanced class proportion, then processed using SPSS and Python software with the Scikit-learn library. Result: The results of the study show that employee attendance is increased from 86.52% to 90.44% when the reward and punishment method is applied to the employee attendance system. Proper reward allocation can increase employee motivation to adhere to work schedules and consistently attend, while punishment tends to lead to lower attendance rates. Novelty: This research emphasizes the optimization of attendance management through data analytics approaches and the implementation of advanced technology in attendance systems with the application of ML techniques to analyze attendance data comprehensively and detect significant patterns.

PurposeThe purpose of the present study is to contribute to the debate on innovative work behaviour (IWB). Employees are expected to exhibit innovative behaviour that can realize, sustain and implement new ideas. This study explores the role of workplace spirituality (WPS) in advancing employees' innovative work behaviour (IWB). Furthermore, this study investigates how employees' perceived working conditions moderate the relationship between WPS and IWB.Design/methodology/approachThe sample comprised 516 employees working in different supply chain companies in India. The researchers used correlation, hierarchical regression analysis and the PROCESS macro in SPSS.FindingsThe results highlighted that the four measurements of WPS (Swadharma, a sense of community, authenticity and Lokasangraha) significantly predict IWB among employees of selected companies. Also, the results suggested the significant moderating effects of decision authority, social support and autonomy on IWB.Originality/valueDrawing from broaden and build theory and theory of intangible resources, the present study demonstrates that WPS positively impacts the employee's IWB. Further, this paper also shows the moderating effects of three dimensions of perceived working conditions between WPS and IWB, which is under-explored in previous research.
