Cultural Practices of Amateur art of Soviet Kazakhstan in Documentary Films-Concerts in 1956–1987: From Official Ideologies to National Content

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of the practice of presenting the amateur art of Kazakhstan in documentary films of the period of late socialism. Concert films shot by directors and cameramen of the Almaty film studio of feature and chronicle films in 1956-1968 and the Kazakh TV film studio in 1963-1987 from the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents and Sound Recording of the Republic of Kazakhstan were analyzed. Archival documents from the fonds of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Kazakhstan were used, which present materials on the history of filming, the preparation of scripts, their discussions, the texts of the scripts themselves, documents of the Republican House of Folk Art, etc. The scripts of documentaries filmed in the Soviet period in the republic were based on the presentation of the progressive and large-scale development of the country. Film-concerts of this time demonstrated different directions of musical and song art of the Kazakh SSR. Thanks to the visualization of certain images and the demonstration of behavioral patterns in documentary and feature films, educational strategies for the formation of a "Soviet person" were broadcast in the Soviet period. The choice of the study of amateur art during the period of late socialism as a subject field was based on the fact that, in general, amateur art can be considered as a certain socio-artistic section and a reflection of the everyday life of broad social strata of society. The repertoire of amateur groups often included folk songs that are popular in everyday life. Along with folk songs, the performance of amateur songs was developed, which were significant for the national environment. The practice of creating amateur songs was close to musical folklore, had a spontaneous, informal character. The existence of folk songs and amateur creativity in the second half of the 20 th century was in part aimed at overcoming official ideologies and preserving the cultural national code.
