This study looks at OpenCourseWare (OCW) in Spain, a country where most public universities have tried to promote that particular model of open educational resources (OER) provision among academics. Using three universities with varying levels of OCW activity as a case study, this article examines key drivers behind the implementation of OCW initiatives and unpacks what it means, as an academic practice, to engage in OCW authoring. Following a qualitative case study approach and a multi-methods design, this study offers a basis for theoretical generalisations that can be useful for understanding similar dynamics taking place within different organisational contexts in Spain and beyond. The findings reveal a major disconnect between the drive to implement OCW initiatives in Spain and actual opportunities for academics to engage with them as part of their work. The author concludes that the extrapolation of a highly prescriptive model of OER provision into institutional realities different from the context where it was originally devised—in this case, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States—is rather problematic. The article also provides some recommendations to university leaders and policy makers, encouraging the creation of alternative models that are mindful of the institutional and cultural specificities of their own contexts and also to take into consideration the social and material realities of the communities they aim to provide with lifelong learning opportunities.

An Evaluation of Teachers' Views on Open Educational Resources

The objective of this study is to determine the ways in-service teachers in Türkiye make use of open educational resources and their opinions on using them. For this purpose, the explanatory sequential design has been employed. 588 teachers have participated in the quantitative part of the study; and ten have participated in the qualitative part on a voluntary basis. Data collection instruments have been (a) a personal information form developed by the researchers comprised of 16 questions and (b) a semi-structured interview form with 3 questions. The personal information form has been administered online to participants via social media. Whereas the interviews have been conducted using Zoom teleconferencing software. According to the findings, more than half of the teachers are knowledgeable on the matter of open educational resources and information resources consist of social media. It has been determined that female teachers make greater use of open educational resources than males. It has been established that the most significant affordance of open educational resources is the way it saves time and space for teachers, whereas lack of time and knowledge are the primary obstacles against using open educational resources. Additionally, the opinions of teachers show a demand from their employing organizations towards activities for raising awareness towards the matter of open educational resources and it has been shown that they wish to be encouraged on this matter. It has also been expressed that they expect quantitative and qualitative improvement of the resources provided by the Ministry of National Education, as well as support and cooperation on the use of open educational resources.

La continua actualización e innovación en la enseñanza de la ingeniería es un tema de particular relevancia en todas las universidades y especialmente en la Universidad Tecnológica Nacional. La universidad cuenta con un Programa de Tecnología Educativa y Enseñanza de la Ingeniería (TEyEI) dependiente del Rectorado, que tiene como objetivo promover, acompañar y divulgar los aportes para mejorar la calidad de la enseñanza de la ingeniería. Este programa se enfoca en desarrollar nuevas metodologías, herramientas y recursos pedagógicos que se adapten a las necesidades de los estudiantes y a los avances tecnológicos en el campo de la ingeniería. De esta manera, la Universidad Tecnológica Nacional busca estar a la vanguardia en la formación de ingenieros altamente capacitados y preparados para enfrentar los desafíos del mundo laboral actual. En este marco, el Programa TEyEI organiza las Jornadas de Enseñanza de la Ingeniería (J.E.I.N.) cada dos años y en este 2023 fue anfitriona la Facultad Regional Paraná de la U.T.N. Previamente, en noviembre de 2022 el Consejo Directivo de la Facultad Regional Paraná, mediante la Resolución N°521, otorga el aval institucional, considerando de interés, la propuesta de las Jornadas de Enseñanza de la Ingeniería. Estas Jornadas tienen el propósito de compartir con la toda la comunidad de la U.T.N., y otras entidades educativas del ciclo superior, experiencias de cátedra, avances de proyectos de investigación y/o actividades de extensión, proyectos de Grado, Trabajos finales de Carrera, Tesinas, Trabajos Integradores Finales o de Becarios en Proyecto de Investigación, siendo estos enmarcados en los siguientes ejes temáticos: Las tecnologías aplicadas en educación (TAE). La didáctica en la universidad y la práctica docente universitaria. La enseñanza de la ingeniería y la formación de los ingenieros. La evaluación de los aprendizajes y de la enseñanza. Las innovaciones curriculares en ingeniería. La educación para el desarrollo sustentable (E.D.S.) y la responsabilidad social universitaria (R.S.U.). La vinculación de las investigaciones con la enseñanza de la ingeniería. La vinculación de la escuela secundaria a la Universidad en carreras de ingeniería. La enseñanza de la ingeniería: aulas tradicionales, virtuales y/o híbridas (modalidad virtual sincrónica/asincrónica y/o presencial). En esta IX edición, se presentaron más de 50 trabajos, los cuales tuvieron su correspondiente evaluación y dictamen otorgado por la comisión evaluadora conformada a tal efecto. Las Jornadas se desarrollaron en modalidad virtual durante los días jueves 7 y viernes 8 de septiembre del 2023, las mismas tuvieron apertura y cierre con espacios de exposiciones plenarias dictadas por referentes de la enseñanza de la Ingeniería, con actividades sincrónicas desarrolladas en salas de videos, donde los trabajos se presentaron en ventanas temporales abiertas a la comunidad educativa para la observación del video y a posteriori, intercambio de opiniones, discusiones o debate con los autores presentes. Lo sustancial de las Jornadas termina siendo la diversidad de trabajos presentados y el intercambio entre colegas enfocados en mejorar la enseñanza y el aprendizaje para las diferentes ramas de la Ingeniería. En este documento queremos compartir, a través de la compilación de trabajos, lo vivido en el mes de septiembre del 2023.
