“…In an attempt to obtain a more quantitative procedure, mycobacteria were attached to a Millipore membrane surface before being exposed to the glutaraldehyde solution. The membrane was then cultured on agar medium in a manner similar to that used in the direct recovery and enumeration of mycobacteria present in air, water, and clinical samples (7,8,10). This allowed the direct enumeration of the surviving bacilli on the membrane surface, providing a direct demonstration of sterility after the bacterial population had been exposed to the standard disinfectant solution.…”
