Cuckoo search via Levy flights applied to uncapacitated facility location problem

Abstract: Facility location problem (FLP) is a mathematical way to optimally locate facilities within a set of candidates to satisfy the requirements of a given set of clients. This study addressed the uncapacitated FLP as it assures that the capacity of every selected facility is finite. Thus, even if the demand is not known, which often is the case, in reality, organizations may still be able to take strategic decisions such as locating the facilities. There are different approaches relevant to the uncapacitated FLP. … Show more

“…CSAs (cuckoo search algorithms) are motivated by the unusual habit of cuckoo species, known as obligatory interspecific brood parasitism [ 32 ]. These behavioral patterns are based on the fact that certain animals use suitable hosts to optimize the selections of characteristics from datasets to grow their progenies.…”

“…A Levy flight is a type of random walk where the step lengths follow a probability distribution called the Levy distribution. This distribution is characterized by heavy and long tails, meaning that it allows for occasional large step lengths that can span considerable distances, promoting global exploration in search spaces [24,25]. In the context of the GWO algorithm, the Levy flight theory is utilized to introduce randomness into the search process and enhance the algorithm's ability to find global optima [26][27][28].…”
