Cuboino. extending physical games

Abstract: Cuboino establishes a new pathway that is not embodied in the marble, but adapts to the medium of its transmission. Signals can be received by multiple modules, creating more than one signal at a time. This allows signals to intertwine and thus create more dynamic and complex game-outcomes. AbstractCuboino is a computationally augmented physical toy system designed as an extension for the existing marble-game cuboro. It

“…Our findings also indicate the importance of physical play via tangible elements and consequently combining both digital and analog mediums to facilitate a move away from purely graphical or electronic interfaces such as tablets. The merge of digital and analog as two aspects in play and learning has been discussed in prior work [4]. Most of the mothers acknowledged the importance of tablets such as iPads however wished to see more of social and physical play.…”

“…Examples of these aids include LEGO Mindstorm, cuboino, LittleBits [2,3]. Further, additional information and animations of mechanisms can be found at www.robives.com, while graphical information regarding LEGO Technic structures has been compiled by Isogawa Yoshihito [4,8].…”

“…However, it suffers from low accessibility due to the high price and high complexity of its components which are caused by high degree of freedom for implementable movements. Cuboino applies digital technology to a physical game called cuboro, but it does not support mechanism structure building [3]. LittleBits is an intuitive and iterative circuit prototyping tool that realizes a philosophy of electronics as materials [2].…”
