Cu/SiO2 synthesized with HKUST-1 as precursor: high ratio of Cu+/(Cu+ + Cu0) and rich oxygen defects for efficient catalytic hydrogenation of furfural to 2-methyl furan

Zhiyuan Zong,
Hongzi Tan,
Pengrui Zhang
et al.

Abstract: Cu/SiO2 is one of the most promising catalysts for the furfural (FF) hydrogenation reaction but suffers from the difficulty of tailoring the microstructure and surface properties.

“…In a latest work, Zong et al. developed a Cu/SiO 2 ‐MOF catalyst derived from KUST‐1 MOFs [1e] . Compared to catalysts prepared by ammonia evaporation method (Cu/SiO 2 ‐AE) and traditional impregnation method (Cu/SiO 2 −TI), Cu species in Cu/SiO 2 ‐MOF are not only fixed on the silicon surface by forming Cu−O−Si bonds but also expose more active sites.…”
