Cu(II) adsorption from aqueous solution using red mud activated by chemical and thermal treatment

Abstract: Brazil is the third-largest producer of aluminium, with the red mud generated during the extraction of aluminium from bauxite through the Bayer process. The red mud has been studied for use as an adsorbent for removing of elements/compounds from wastewater and/or contaminated soil. “…Uma das maiores áreas específicas para a LV sem qualquer tratamento foi encontrada por Wang (2005) A LVB apresentou a seguinte análise mineralogia: gibbsita (Al(OH)3) (00-029-0041), sodalita (Na8(Al6Si6O24(CO3)(H2O)3)) (01-085-2066/00-003-0338), calcita (CaCO3) (00-001-0837), hematita (Fe2O3) (01-087-1164)) e anatásio (TiO2) (00-001-0562). A fase dominante na lama vermelha é a hematita, representada pelos picos 24,12°, 33,16°, 35,65°, 40,90°, 49,49°, 54,12°, 62,54°e 64,00°. Na amostra LVC após o processo de calcinação, verifica-se o desaparecimento dos picos 18,27°e 20,27° e 21,30° correspondentes à gibbsita, o que pode indicar a decomposição da mesma em Al2O3 (KURTOGLU et al, 2016;CONCEIÇÃO et al, 2016). Verifica-se que para a LVC a os picos de maiores intensidades correspondem à hematita (Fe2O3), devido à decomposição de hidróxidos de ferro em hematita e pela decomposição de minerais complexos.…”
