Reliability and high availability have always been a major concern in distributed systems. Providing highly available and reliable services in cloud computing is essential for maintaining customer confidence and satisfaction and preventing revenue losses. Although various solutions have been proposed for cloud availability and reliability, but there are no comprehensive studies that completely cover all different aspects in the problem. This paper presented a ‘Reference Roadmap’ of reliability and high availability in cloud computing environments. A big picture was proposed which was divided into four steps specifying through four pivotal questions starting with ‘Where?’, ‘Which?’, ‘When?’ and ‘How?’ keywords. The desirable result of having a highly available and reliable cloud system could be gained by answering these questions. Each step of this reference roadmap proposed a specific concern of a special portion of the issue. Two main research gaps were proposed by this reference roadmap.

Abstract:Cloud management organisation is an imperative part of cloud computing platform and serving as the resource manager for cloud platforms. The multifaceted nature of cloud-management base makes its high availability (HA), a standout amongst the most necessities. Different innovations have been produced to build a consistent quality and availability of cloud administration infrastructure. In any case, little work concentrated on quantitative examination of its accessibility. While this ability accomplishes a developed availability with small fault rates, corporate requests conveyed over the autonomous zones may encounter unique Quality of Service (QoS) because of various physical frameworks. The key target of this paper is to show how the Markov-based model can fulfil the client request. For this reason, a few scenarios of the failure rate of virtual machine's practices, for example, single system failure, multiple system failures, power outage are considered by applying the Markov model. The improved repair strategies of accessibility in various circumstances are also investigated. The Queuing models like Markovian and non-Markovian models are examined using phase type expansion and renewal theory keeping in mind the end goal to sufficiently speak to and to assess. The considered element unwavering quality perspectives if there should be an occurrence of the most part dispersed lifetimes and times to repair.

Advances in virtualisation technology have enabled the development of network virtualisation that complements server virtualisation by enabling continuous workload agility irrespective of the network addressing and protocol of the underlying physical network. Despite huge benefits both in cost and accessibility, network virtualisation is susceptible to failure due to a wide variety of factors. Therefore, dependability in a virtualised network environment is a significant issue that need to be addressed before the full benefits of network virtualisation can be exploited. In this paper, we propose a framework to estimate dependability risks in virtual network environments considering variations in the virtual network configurations. The proposed framework uses the reliability block diagram (RBD) and continuous time Markov chains (CTMC) to model and analyse the dependability level of a virtual network. The proposed framework is helpful to the design and construction of more dependable VNE.
