CT Evaluation by Artificial Intelligence for Atherosclerosis, Stenosis and Vascular Morphology (CLARIFY): A Multi-center, international study

Abstract: Background: Atherosclerosis evaluation by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is promising for coronary artery disease (CAD) risk stratification, but time consuming and requires high expertise. Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to CCTA for comprehensive CAD assessment may overcome these limitations. We hypothesized AI aided analysis allows for rapid, accurate evaluation of vessel morphology and stenosis. Methods: This was a multi-site study of 232 patients undergoing CCTA. Studies were analyzed … Show more

“…The following APCs were evaluated: ► Atherosclerosis: Quantitative atherosclerosis characterisation was performed for every coronary artery and its branches using the automated AI-enabled web-based software platform (Cleerly Labs). 13 PVs (mm 3 ) were calculated for each coronary lesion and then summated to compute the PV at the patient level. Plaque with a minimum volume of ≥3 mm 3 was included for analysis.…”

“…Endothelial injury is an important contributing factor in the development of thrombosis and can result from atherosclerotic disease [27,28]. Especially in cardiac imaging, CT is a well-validated imaging modality for the assessment of atherosclerosis [29,30].…”

“…More recently, the CT Evaluation by Artificial Intelligence for Atherosclerosis, Stenosis and Vascular Morphology (CLARIFY) multi-center study compared AI to level 3 (L3) readers in detecting coronary artery stenosis on CCTA ( 11 ). AI analysis ( Figure 1 ) showed 99.7% accuracy in detecting >70% stenosis and 94.8% accuracy in detecting >50% stenosis.…”
