CSI and SENSE CSI

Abstract: Chemical shift imaging (CSI) is a magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) method of localizing spectra from multiple locations at the same time. For localization, the principle of phase encoding as used in MRI is applied. Because the applied phase-encoding gradients are strong and short, CSI localization does not suffer from image warping and chemical shift displacement artifacts. The main disadvantage of CSI is the long acquisition time. For example, acquiring the minimum of a single encoding step per phase enc… Show more

“…18 , 76 However, the advantages of STEAM over PRESS are that (i) TE can be shortened in STEAM owing to the difference in the echo generation mechanism described above, and (ii) by using only 90° pulses, it has a sharper slice profile, a wider pulse bandwidth, smaller chemical shift displacements of metabolites, and a smaller specific absorption rate. 18 , 41 , 77 …”

“…Reduced measurement times are partly due to the applicability of larger voxels in CSI, which are information rich and can distinguish between multiple species and evaluate their relative concentrations. 11 Thus, while CHESS provides structural details, CSI spatially resolves chemical properties of target species.…”
