A single crystal of gamma-glycine (GG), a polymorph of glycine, was synthesized by crystallization. The single crystal of GG was grown from an aqueous solution. The morphology of GG was studied in order to assess its growth facets. The good quality single crystals were subjected to X-ray diffraction studies to reveal their structure. The FT-IR spectral analysis was carried out to confirm the presence of expected functional groups. The UV-Vis analysis was done for GG single crystals to determine the optical transparency and band gap. Simultaneous TG-DTA analysis was employed to understand the thermal and physicochemical stability of the title compound. The mechanical stability and laser stability of GG single crystal were studied using Vickers microhardness test and laser induced damage threshold on different planes of the crystal to reveal its anisotropic nature. The dielectric measurement was carried out as a function of frequency and the results were discussed. The existence of second harmonic generation (SHG) of the title compound was confirmed by Kurtz-Perry powder technique. The SHG effective nonlinearity and particle size dependence of GG powder sample were compared with a standard reference material: potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP).

The growth of good quality bulk single crystals of bismuth selenide by employing a high-temperature vertical Bridgman technique with a specially designed ampoule having a provision for a necking process is reported. Several growth experiments were performed and reproducible results were obtained. The crystal structure and lattice dimensions were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), the bulk crystalline perfection was assessed using highresolution X-ray diffractometry and the good bulk crystalline perfection with an indication of layered structure was confirmed. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was carried out for the grown single crystal and confirmed the layered structure. High-resolution TEM (HRTEM) was also used to further assess the crystalline perfection. The direct measurement of d spacing obtained from HRTEM imaging was found to be in good agreement with the data obtained from PXRD. The thermal behavior was examined by differential scanning calorimetry and a sharp melting was found at 983 K, which revealed the purity of the bismuth selenide. The Seebeck coefficient and electrical and thermal conductivities were measured, and a thermoelectric figure of merit was calculated in order to assess the suitability of the crystal for thermoelectric applications such as refrigeration and portable power generation. Nanoindentation analysis was also performed for the first time.

Metastable zonewidth and induction period measurements of Benzimidazole (BMZ) are presented. The nucleation parameters such as interfacial tension, radius of the critical nucleus and critical free energy change have been calculated for the solution grown Benzimidazole (BMZ) single crystals at different supersaturation ratios. The grown BMZ crystals were characterized by the differential scanning calorimetric studies for analysis of thermal properties. The dielectric behaviour of the crystal was studied at different temperature and frequency. The laser damage threshold studies show that BMZ crystal has higher laser damage threshold.
