Crystallization kinetics and dielectric properties of nanocrystalline lead strontium barium niobates

Abstract: The crystallization kinetics and phase developments of PbO–BaO–SrO–Nb2O5–B2O3–SiO2-based glass-ceramics was investigated. Lead strontium barium niobate, (Pb,Sr,Ba)Nb2O6, with a tetragonal tungsten-bronze structure formed as the major crystalline phase, which showed evidence of both surface and bulk crystallization. The results of the present study showed significant evidence of a change in crystallization mechanism between the as-heated surface and the interior of glass-ceramics. This effect could be attribute… Show more

“…In the field of ferroelectric glass-ceramic materials, a large number of studies are focused on the niobate glass-ceramic system, different types of ferroelectric glass-ceramic systems such as (PbO, Na 2 O)-Nb 2 O 5 [9], (SrO, BaO)-Nb 2 O 5 [10,11], (PbO, SrO, BaO)-Nb 2 O 5 [12] glass-ceramics, have been investigated widely. However, most of these materials containing lead, are harmful to the environment, which limits their wide application.…”

“…Much attention has recently been paid to a variety of ferroelectric glass-ceramics, such as (Ba,Sr)TiO 3 , (Ba,Sr)Nb 2 O 6 , and (Pb,Sr,Ba)Nb 2 O 6 [1][2][3][4] owing to their potential applications in high energy storage devices. In energy storage capacitors, the energy density is related to the product of breakdown strength (BDS) squared and dielectric constant.…”

“…The breakdown strength, however, generally decreases with increasing ε r . Another common approach is to develop composites based on glass-ceramics [6,7] or polymerceramics [8] with the potential to get high ε r (associated with ceramics) and breakdown strength (associated with glass/polymers) simultaneously. Advantages of using glassceramics also include easy adjustability of composition and microstructure, and consequently good tunability of dielectric properties through changing glass composition before melt-casting and subsequent post-treatments.…”
