“…The un-reduced vanadium with an occurrence state of V 2 O 3 or VO in molten slag is related to the content of the reduced product V and reducing agent Al [38]. When slag and alloy coexist in a smelting system, a large amount of reduced metal vanadium can form in the molten alloy phase through the equilibrium reaction between low-valence V 2 O 3 and VO and Al, as shown in reaction (9). The corresponding ∆G Θ for reaction (9) was calculated to be −85.0 kJ•mol −1 at 1800 • C, which means that VO is more thermodynamically stable than V 2 O 3 .…”

“…Vanadium-bearing slag is the most important secondary source, which is a by-product generated in the semi-steel producing and vanadium removal step in the steel-making process using vanadium-rich titanomagenetite ore as the raw material [7,8]. In vanadiumbearing minerals, vanadium in minerals is found in the form of vanadates or oxides, forming spinel group solid solutions together with iron, titanium, chromium or manganese [9,10]. Over the past 20 years, vanadium-bearing slags have mainly been treated using the sodium salt roast-leaching process or calcium salt roast-leaching process for the extraction of vanadium [11,12].…”

“…11. The shape of the particle size distribution curve at 1773-1623 K is a lognormal distribution function, which is shown in eqn (8). Because the vanadium slag in the molten state at this time is more mobile and supercooled, the crystal growth process at this time is essentially the adsorption of new atoms on the crystal surface at the solid-liquid phase interface.…”

“…The calculated optimal growth temperature range of the spinel phase is consistent with the previous experiments. Huang 8 also found that the mean diameter and volume fraction of spinel crystals in vanadium slag increased with prolonging holding time and by decreasing the temperature in the actual smelting temperature range of 1573-1673 K. Feng 9 found that a TiO 2 content of 12 wt% in vanadium slag was the most conducive to the crystallization of the V-spinel. Through crystal structure characterization, the displacement mechanism of V and Ti in the vanadium spinel was obtained.…”

“…Cr2O3 and chromium-containing spinel phases have high melting points. The melting points of Cr2O3, FeCr2O4 and MgCr2O4 are 2435 °C, 2000 °C, and 2350 °C, respectively [5,6]. The high melting point phase in the slag is not conducive to the dissolution of lime.…”
