Structure D 2000Crystal Structure of Thorium Metavanadate (Th(VO3)4). -The title compound is synthesized by heating a mixture of ThO 2 and V 2 O 5 (600°C, 48 h) and its crystal structure at ambient temperature is determined by Rietveld refinement of powder XRD data. Th(VO3)4 crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I41/a with Z = 8. The structure contains two crystallographically distinct V atoms in tetrahedral coordination. The VO4 tetrahedra are connected by sharing corners to form a spiral chain. The VO4 chains are folded in a spiral manner and sequentially stacked. They are held together by the Th atoms. -(ACHARY, S.
