Crystal structure of the protein At3g01520, a eukaryotic universal stress protein‐like protein from arabidopsis thaliana in complex with AMP

Abstract: Members of the universal stress protein (USP) family are conserved in a phylogenetically diverse range of prokaryotes, fungi, protists, and plants and confer abilities to respond to a wide range of environmental stresses. Arabidopsis thaliana contains 44 USP domain-containing proteins, and USP domain is found either in a small protein with unknown physiological function or in an N-terminal portion of a multi-domain protein, usually a protein kinase. Here, we report the first crystal structure of a eukaryotic U… Show more

“…The up-regulated MPL43 protein participates in abscisic acid (ABA) signal transduction, which is critical for plant growth and responses to abiotic stress. The universal stress protein (USP), induced nearly 5-fold in VIGS plants, mediates cellular responses to a wide variety of stresses30. Overall, a significant number of DEGs related to stress responses in VIGS plants may indicate that silencing of the RPC5L affected not only core functions of the RNAPIII that is, production of small housekeeping RNAs, but also had a broader influence on other processes, including defense responses.…”

“…Universal Stress Proteins (USP) are involved in multiple cellular responses to biotic and abiotic stressors, ranging from ion scavenging, hypoxia responses, cellular mobility, and regulation of cell growth and development ( Chi et al, 2019 ). Glyma.10g013700 has been associated with the Arabidopsis thaliana AT3G01520 , an adenine nucleotide alpha hydrolases-like superfamily protein that is involved in N-terminal protein myristoylation ( Kim et al, 2015 ). The attachment of a myristoyl group enhances specific protein–protein interactions, thus playing an essential role in membrane targeting and signal transduction in plant responses to biotic and abiotic stressors ( Podell and Gribskov, 2004 ; Traverso et al, 2008 ; Udenwobele et al, 2017 ).…”

“…Then, cAMP-activated protein kinase A (PKA). PKA regulates the activities of various proteins, including TFs, through phosphorylation, so as to regulate a variety of physiological molecules in cells such as ion channels, cytoskeleton www.nature.com/scientificreports/ proteins, and enzymes 42 . PLDδ may regulate signal transduction in the process of plant stress resistance through phosphatidic acid (PA), an important signaling molecule in plant cell signal transduction 43 .…”
