Crystal Structure of the Molecular Addition Compound Diphenylchloroborane·Tetrahydrofuran

Abstract: Crystalline Ph2BCl·O(CH2)4 is an unexpectedly stable complex containing an intact THF ligand in the presence of a boron halide bond. The short B−O and long B−Cl bonds of this ether cleavage precursor complex are rationalized using Gillespie's ligand close-packing arguments.
