Crystal structure of a new pentadentate symmetrical: di[4-(phenylimino)pentan-2-one] ether. Structural and electrochemical studies of its CoII, NiII, CuII and CdII complexes

Abstract: The crystal structure of a new symmetrical pentadentate N 2 O 3 Schiff base: di[4-(phenylimino)pentan-2-one] ether (H 2 L) is described. In the solid state, the ligand appears as a keto-imine tautomer, while in DMSO solution, the eneamine form is observed. This ligand coordinates cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and cadmium(II). The structures of these new complexes are described using infrared and electronic spectroscopy, 1 H-n.m.r. and d.s.c. The cyclic voltammograms of the ligand and the complexes in DMF … Show more

“…The cyclic voltammograms of the four complexes exhibit oxidation and reduction metal centred processes, as for complexes previously published [43]. On the cathodic side, the cyclic voltammograms of the 2 : 2 and 2 : 1 (cobalt-ligand) complexes (Figures 6(b) and 6(c)) show a similar reoxidation peak at -0.10 V and two cathodic peaks at -1.14 V and -1.…”

“…The cobalt(II) and cadmium(II) complexes of ligand H 2 L1 or H 2 L2 are very stable thermally and show endothermic peaks in the 360-390°C range. These results are in good agreement with literature values [42].…”

“…The studied Schiff base compound was synthesized in proper literature (Issaadi et al, 2005;Ghames et al, 2006;Kaabi et al, 2007). by reacting the mixture of 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl ether (0.4 mg, 0.002 mol) and 2-quinolinecarboxaldehyde (0.64 mg, 0.004 mol) in 20 ml of boiling ethanol for 5 h, after completion of the reaction the separated solid was filtered, washed with alcohol, and finally recrystallized from ethanol and dried under vacuum.…”
