Crystal structure of a luminescent thiolated Ag nanocluster with an octahedral Ag64+core

Abstract: A yellow luminescent thiolate-protected Ag(14)(SC(6)H(3)F(2))(12)(PPh(3))(8) cluster was synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The cluster contains an octahedral Ag(6)(4+) unit encapsulated by eight cubically arranged [Ag(+)(SC(6)H(3)F(2)(-))(2)PPh(3)] tetrahedra that share one corner (i.e. SC(6)H(3)F(2)(-)) between them.

“…27−30 In 2013, the group of Nanfeng Zheng resolved successfully several silver cluster compounds protected by SR− PR 3 or pure SR monolayer. 31 30 4− were resolved as well. Each of those compounds fulfilled the 1S 2 1P 6 1D 10 (18-electron) shell-filling rule of superatoms.…”

“…Construction of polynuclear silver coordination polymer (CPs) currently remains one of the most active research fields, not only because silver has rich coordination geometries; but also because it possesses extensive functions like antibiosis, pharmaceutics, etc. [5][6][7][8]. On the other hand, polyoxometalates (POMs), a large family of early transition metal oxide clusters, can be used as secondary building units (SBUs) to construct higher dimensional coordination polymers, owning to the plenty of potential coordination sites.…”

“…Crystallography is more useful for NCs stabilized by small molecules [75][76][77][78], where the ligands are often a thiol-containing compound. Since it is more difficult to produce single crystals with DNA, mass spectrometry is a more widely used tool.…”
