Crystal structure, luminescence properties and biological studies of a novel polymeric cadmiumII compound: [Cd(Clphtpy)(NCS)(NO3)]n

Abstract: The new 1D coordination polymer, [Cd(Clphtpy)(NCS)(NO 3 )] n (Clphtpy = 4 -chlorophenyl-2,2 :6 ,2 -terpyridine), was prepared and characterized by CHN elemental analysis, 1 H NMR-, IR spectroscopy and analyzed structurally by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. X-ray crystallography data showed that the asymmetric unit of complex comprised an independent mononuclear cadmium complex with a seven-coordinate "CdN 4 O 2 S" core. The complex was tested against four gram-positive and four gram-negative bacteria. It ex… Show more

“…To the best of my knowledge, our research group have reported first time the antimicrobial efficacy of two Cd(II) azide/thiocyanate linked coordination polymers involving compartmental Schiff base ligand (H 2 L 1 ). The antimicrobial activities of compounds 1 & 2 are very similar with other reported Cd(II) complexes [Cd 3 (L 1 ) 2 (Cl) 2 ], [CdL(SCN) 2 ], [Cd(Clphtpy)(N 3 ) 2 ] 2 , [Cd(Clphtpy)(NO 3 ) 2 (H 2 O)] . Hence, it can be concluded that all Cd(II) 1D and 2D coordination polymers can be promoted as potential broad spectrum antimicrobial agents.…”
