“…The designs and selections of O‐donor and N‐donor ligands are important to the synthesis of coordination polymers with fascinating structures and excellent performances . Small aliphatic carboxylates are widely used as O‐donor ligands to obtain a number of coordination polymers not only for their low prices and good flexibilities, but also for their diverse coordination modes . Some time ago, we obtained several coordination polymers based on a flexible itaconic acid .…”

“…The flexible ligands with at least one sp 3 -hybrid atom (generally C, N, O or S) in their backbones are often used to synthesize the coordination polymers because the flexible sections can twist or rotate around a single bond to meet the requirements of various metal-ligand coordination fashions. [17][18][19][20] Through the careful analysis of our and other researchers' previous work, it was found that the aliphatic carboxylates ligands (such as itaconic acid [21][22][23][24][25] and citraconic acid [26][27][28][29] ), had better flexibility than those aromatic carboxylic acids (for example, phenylacetate acid [30][31][32][33] and phenylpropionic acid). [34,35] Furthermore, the N-donor ligand is a very important component of adjusting the structures and flexibilities of coordination polymers to satisfy the requirement of coordination geometries of metal ions in the assembly process.…”
