“…Since solid-state ultraviolet lasers are small, highly efficient, low cost, and safe in comparison with gas lasers, they have received much attention for semiconductor photolithography, micromachining, photochemical synthesis, laser spectroscopy, and photoemission spectroscopy. Borate crystals such as β-BaB 2 O 4 (BBO), CsLiB 6 O 10 (CLBO), and Li 2 B 4 O 7 (LBO) are utilized as nonlinear crystals in the ultraviolet region. In particular, SrB 4 O 7 (SBO) is a promising material as wavelength conversion crystals which are transparent down to the deepest ultraviolet wavelengths (125 nm). …”

“…In a previous research, high-quality CsLiB 6 O 10 (CLBO) single crystals were successfully obtained from a self-flux solution and a stoichiometric melt by the top-seeded solution growth (TSSG) method. [13][14][15][16][17] In the TSSG method, a seed crystal is brought into contact with the melt and grows by supersaturation. The crystal grows across a wide region of the melt, which makes it difficult to simultaneously control the supersaturation of the whole raw material.…”

“…Since the B 2 O 3 -enriched solutions have high viscosity, a self-fluxed solution poor in B 2 O 3 (Cs 2 CO 3 :Li 2 CO 3 :B 2 O 3 with a molar ratio of 1:1:5.5) was used to grow the CLBO crystals. The results showed that growth in a dry atmosphere prevents water vapor from entering the CLBO solution, and growth from a stoichiometric melt prevents water from being included in the growing crystal [161]. The crystal also exhibited easily distinguishable facets similar to those of crystals grown from the stoichiometric melt [158].…”
