“…the Hamiltonian of the interaction between the Yb 3 þ ion and the crystal field of tetragonal symmetry was written in the conventional form and S′ is the operator of the effective spin S′ ¼1/2 of the Yb 3 þ ion were calculated with the wave functions of the Kramers ground state doublet. Then seven theoretical quantities (two g-factors and five values of the energy differences) were used for the leastsquare approximation (similar to the procedure described in [10]) of the corresponding experimental values in order to find the best values of g-factors, crystal field parameters and spin-orbit interaction.
