“…Following the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident, large amounts of radioactive substances, particularly volatile elements, such as radioactive iodine, caesium and tellurium, were released into the environment. The ex‐evacuation zone comprises a 20‐km‐radius area around the FDNPP, from which we have established an archive system of livestock and wild animals (Ariyoshi et al., 2018; Fukuda et al., 2013; Fukuda et al., 2015; Fukuda et al., 2016; Koarai et al., 2016; Koarai et al., 2018; Koarai et al, 2020; Ohdaira et al., 2019; Suzuki et al, 2020; Takahashi et al., 2015; Takino et al., 2017; Urushihara et al., 2016; Meguro et al., 2019; Urushihara et al., 2018; Yamashiro et al., 2013; Yamashiro et al., 2014; Yamashiro et al., 2015).…”

“…Due to the release of large quantity of radioactive contaminants, evacuation zone was set. It was reported that approximately 31,500 domestic pigs were abandoned behind within this (ex-) evacuation zone (Yamashiro et al, 2014). It is also known that these domestic pigs and wild boars had crossed with each other, and Inobuta has been observed (Yamashiro et al, 2014).…”

“…It was reported that approximately 31,500 domestic pigs were abandoned behind within this (ex-) evacuation zone (Yamashiro et al, 2014). It is also known that these domestic pigs and wild boars had crossed with each other, and Inobuta has been observed (Yamashiro et al, 2014). It is plausible to expect that some degree of genetic effect from these Inobuta on Japanese wild boar population will continue; as of now, the effects on environment and human health by these radiation-exposed animals seems unclear.…”

“…We collected sperm form the testis of an euthanized Japanese black bull (the abandoned bull) at Tomioka Town, located 7 km south of FNPP, on February 28, 2013, as described previously [10]. Immediately after collection, the sperm was diluted with a Triladyl freezing extender containing egg yolk (Mini Tube, Germany); freezing protocol was performed as described previously [11]. On sampling date, ambient dose equivalent rate was 1.7 μSv/h (using a NaI (Tl) Scintillation Survey Meter), and the time elapsed since the FNPP accident (March 11, 2011) was almost 2 years.…”
