“…Mallorca sits in a geologically stable region, away from any of the major tectonic boundaries that exist in the Mediterranean basin. The absence of significant earthquake activity (i.e., M > 3.5) in historical times ( 21 ) and minimal vertical motions since the Upper Miocene (the Supplementary Materials) ( 15 , 22 , 23 ), suggest that Mallorca represents one of the most tectonically stable regions in the western Mediterranean Sea.
