“…The adopted values cover the range of commonly assumed values for both deep and shallow basins of Eurasia located in different tectonic settings (Avchan & Oserskaya, 1985;Oserskaya & Podoba, 1967). They are also in agreement with recent studies in the Barents and Kara Seas based on seismic and gravity data which suggest a density increase from 2.20-2.30 g/cm 3 in Quaternary sediments to 2.50-2.55 g/cm 3 in the deep strata (Barrere et al, 2011;Kashubin et al, 2018). We do not use the maximum local values of 2.60 g/cm 3 reported for the western Barents Sea (Barrere et al, 2011), since it is unclear how representative they may be of all deep basins in the study region, and note that a 0.05-g/cm 3 underestimate in density for a 5-km-thick layer will produce a 10-mGal gravity effect, which is well within the overall uncertainty of our modeling.…”

“…The emerging consensus is that the HALIP, of which AMR is part, was formed from a mantle plume source interacting with continental crust (e.g., Jackson et al, ). Kashubin et al () infer a 20‐km‐thick sequence of felsic (continental?) lower crust, underplated magmatic material, and upper mantle eclogites beneath Mendeleev Ridge based on seismic data.…”

“…Chukchi Plateau and Spur and Northwind Ridge together form Chukchi Borderland, which rises from the ~3,800‐m‐deep Canada Basin to depths as shallow as ~350 m (Chukchi) to ~550 m (Northwind). Chukchi Borderland and Northwind Basin and Ridge occupy ~1.95 × 10 6 km 2 of Amerasian Basin and lie on continental crust that is thicker and more intact (less attenuated) than that beneath the adjacent parts of Nautilus and Canada basins (Kashubin et al, ). Only the northernmost part of Chukchi Plateau lies within the HAMH (Oakey & Saltus, ).…”
