Crown fragment reattachment in anterior-fractured tooth: A five-year follow-up

Abstract: Treatment of anterior dental fractures often requires an immediate procedure. Reattachment of the fragment to its original position is an optimal approach to aesthetic and functional rehabilitation. This paper reports the case of a permanent maxillary lateral incisor with crown fracture treated by adhesive fragment reattachment. Follow-up radiographs over 5 years demonstrated the satisfactory resolution of the clinical case.

“…They confirmed that reattachment of the fractured fragments simple, longlasting esthetics and improved function with a very conservative approach. 42,43 In this case reports we concluded that there is not intra-pulpal or periapical pathosis with continued root development could be detected radiographically in immature teeth.…”

“…de Lima Mde et al 42 performed reattachment of fractured fragment of an anterior tooth with nine-year follow-up. Similarly, Martos et al 43 reported reattachment of maxillary right lateral incisor with 5 year follow-up. They confirmed that reattachment of the fractured fragments simple, longlasting esthetics and improved function with a very conservative approach.…”

“…The adaptation of a tooth fragment to its original position through dental bonding is considered an excellent approach in the treatment of a coronal fracture . The use of dental adhesive systems capable of reattaching a fractured fragment to its homologous remnant presupposes several advantages compared to conventional restorative methods …”

“…The level of fracture is an important factor in determining treatment, especially when the dentogingival complex is compromised . The reattachment of the fractured fragment using adhesive techniques offers advantages, such as the re‐establishment of function, esthetics, texture, shape, and surface brightness, in addition to maintaining the original alignment of the restored teeth …”

“…The application of dental adhesives capable of reattaching a fragment to the remaining tooth structure appears to offer a number of advantages compared with the conventional methods for restoring fractured teeth. [10] Trauma to anterior teeth is a relatively common occurrence, but it has been found that there is a positive emotional and social response from the patient to the preservation of natural tooth structure. [11] With the advent of rotary endodontics, ProTaper files are commonly in use because when compared to other file systems, it has changing percentage tapers over the length of its cutting blades that serves to significantly improve flexibility, cutting efficiency, and safety.…”
