Crosstalk between oral and general health status in e-smokers

Abstract: Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) simulates the act of tobacco smoking by vaporizing a mixture of propylene glycol, nicotine, and flavoring agents. e-cigarette has been proposed as a product able to aid to stop smoking. The aim of the study is to verify the clinical variations of periodontal health induced by e-cigarettes use and, moreover, to investigate about the awareness of the e-smokers about their health variations and about their hypothetical need to turn back to smoke combustible cigarettes. This clini… Show more

“…Future challenges will address the potential uses of this technique on stem cells [66][67][68][69] combined with innovative biomaterials or bioactive matrices [70,71]: the next breakthrough will be related to use of optogenetics in the treatment of the most severe clinical conditions, such as syndromic conditions and cancer [72][73][74][75][76][77][78]. Moreover, the use of optogenetics will improve "smart" diagnostic applications, based on the current knowledge on wearable devices, smart materials, and tissue engineering [79,80]: the next research will be used to develop new tools for forthcoming applications combining genetics and molecular biology. In conclusion, optogenetics is a promising technique that will provide several opportunities in several biomedical fields.…”

“…The periodontal status was assessed by measuring the papillary bleeding index (PBI) (Muhlemann, 1977) [12]. Clinical measurements were recorded by the calibrated investigator using a periodontal probe with 1 mm markings (Osung, Korea).…”

“…19 Several risk factors should be also avoided in TN, as some factors could be involved in the processes of cytopathic hypoxia and of cellular oxidative stress. [20][21][22][23] Finally, the diagnosis must even consider, and exclude, oncological issues, 24,25 syndromic conditions especially those related to oral and maxillofacial regions, 26 or micro-and macro-trauma, eventually treated with traditional or innovative autologous scaffolds.…”
