This study focuses on the similarities and the differences of territorial brands and identities of two territorial case study examples which have cultures "in-between": Lapland and Kuusamo in Finland, and South Tyrol in Italy. Territorial brand and identity are popular and important themes generally in social sciences but less applied to tourism research. However, identity and brand have a significant role in the demand for goods and services of tourism. Stakeholders are important actors in territorial brand promotion. Therefore, also the public opinion and attitudes of tourists and "the common man" about territorial brand are of great importance. This study analyses, in this comparative case study, territorial brand identity in the context of tourism by using qualitative methods and especially discourse analysis on websites reflecting the general opinion of public about territorial brand. The results reveal different nuances and meanings of territorial brand in tourism. Two different emergent branding strategies have been noticed for tourism areas. On the one hand, in the case of Lapland and Kuusamo, hanging on to regional boundaries can restrict cooperation and slow down progress in tourism and regional development. On the other hand, in the case of South Tyrol, multicultural identity and features can be a source for attraction in the tourism business. This study, with its findings, encourages to study territorial identity in the tourism business and to launch a qualitative approach for this theme.

How border tripoints offer opportunities for transboundary tourism development

Borders have significant potential as tourist attractions, and there are many aspects of unique border locations capable of attracting people's attention. One such attraction would be the tripoint, i.e. a place where the borders of three different countries meet physically at a single point. One of the newest such features in Europe where the borders of Poland, Slovakia and Czechia meet in the Beskid Mountainsprovides an example of far-reaching borderrelated changes in the EU, the creativity of local authorities as supported by EU funds, and the creation of a new transboundary meeting space with a strong integration-related identity. It also exemplifies the concept of a new tourist space beyond traditional tourist destinations. The development of tourism at tripoints is modelled ideographically. Spatio-temporal analysis with scalar dimensions shows the spatial relationships between tripoints and tourism development: the central point, the immediate vicinity, the proximal neighborhood (or local zone) and the regional zone. The tripoint examined here supports a proposal for a spatial planning model at tripoints in Europe.

The study of state border have always been an interesting topic of discussion among the International Relations scholars, this is because the border issues are related to territorial issues and state sovereignty. So that discussions about state borders are always dominated by traditional security approaches that put the country as the primary actor. Meanwhile, this article seeks to use the human security approach in reviewing state border issues. This is done as a form of response to the dynamics of change in international relation. Unlike traditional security approaches that always put a state as the object of reference, the human security approach is focus on individual security. According to UNDP there are seven universal components in human security approach; economic, food, health, environment, personal, community, and political security.
