Cross-Platform Cross-Cultural User Experience

Abstract: Many interactive systems can be accessed across a range of different platforms, enabling crossplatform services and allowing users to migrate their tasks from one platform to another. The aim of this study is to investigate the culture-related experiential side of using multiple interactive systems across platforms by studying users from different cultural backgrounds. In this paper, we present our findings from a user study of five cross-platform services. We conducted the user study in Australia and Saudi Ar… Show more

“…This judgment is supported by different definitions of user experience, such as that given by Hassenzahl and Tractinsky [47], which defined user experience as a consequence of multiple factors including the characteristics of the designed system such as usability. The usability criteria can also be used as a metric to assess user experience [49,56]. Based on the reviewed definitions of user experience and usability and what we have discussed on the overlapping meaning between the two terms in this section, we attempt to illustrate differences and relationships between user experience and usability, see Figure 10.…”

“…Usability has traditionally been an important quality attribute of interactive systems, where usable interfaces were found to improve human productivity and performance [12,15,16]. The growth of cross-platform interaction and services has resulted in a new emerging theme for usability referred to as 'cross-platform usability' (or 'inter-usability' or 'horizontal usability') (see [17][18][19][20][21][22][23]).…”
