“…While they emphasized the importance of spiritual exploration by clinicians as part of their clinical formulation interviews, they did not explicitly acknowledge or state spiritual care as potentially integral to this. This highlights another challenge in current research: most studies on spirituality and spiritual care are conducted by researchers with a medical or psychological background (Basset & Baker, 2015;Dein, 2017;Lucas, 2017;Saavedra, 2014;Suhail & Ghauri, 2010;Van Holten 2012;Waltman, 2013), which could explain why it is uncommon to see other perspectives or backgrounds included in research. It could be helpful for future research to include perspectives from spiritual care alongside medical, psychiatric, or psychological backgrounds.…”

“…Recently quite a lot of research has been done on religious delusions in relation to mental health. Reviewing the literature, we can say that most of this research revolves around one (or more) of the following issues: (a) the problem of how to differentiate religious beliefs from religious delusions (e.g., Bassett and Baker, 2015; Lenz, 1983; Lucas, 2017; Ng, 2007; O’Connor and Vandenberg, 2010; Peters, 2010; Pierre, 2001; Rosenleitner and Rittmannsberger, 2013; Sims, 2009; Waltman, 2013); (b) the personal significance of delusional beliefs with religious or spiritual content for those concerned (e.g., Danbolt et al., 2011; Dein, 2017; Drinnan & Lavender, 2006; Ouwehand et al., 2014, 2018; Pechey & Halligan, 2011; Pesut et al., 2011; Saavedra, 2014; Suhail & Ghauri, 2010); and (c) studies focussing on the therapeutic interventions for patients suffering from religious delusions (e.g., Miller & McCormack, 2006; Siddle et al., 2002, 2004).…”
