Cross-cultural adaptation, reliability and validity of the Turkish version of Patient-Specific Functional Scale in patients with chronic neck pain

Abstract: Background/aim: Current clinical guidelines recommend to use both clinical and self-reported measurements for evaluation of chronic neck pain. Among the self-reported outcomes, Neck disability index and patient-specific functional scale are the most widely used and recommended instruments. The purpose of our study was to determine the test-retest reliability and validity of patient-specific functional scale which was not validated in Turkish language previously. Materials and methods: Translation and adaptatio… Show more

“…The high ICC test–retest values in our study (0.95) are comparable to those in previously performed studies of the psychometric qualities of the original PSFS, with ICC values ranging from 0.82 to 0.98. 8 , 10 , 63 , 64 The measurement error of 0.95 to −1.25 is also in line with outcomes reported in a recent systematic review on the measurement properties of the PSFS standard error of measurement values of the PSFS were ≤ 1 for most reported conditions, except for cervical radiculopathy, where it was 1.5. The reported SDC values ranged from 1.5 points to approximately 3 points, but these were not consistently lower than minimal important change values.…”

“…Prior applications of the PSFS in various populations suggested that activities listed by patients will mostly fall under the ICF activity component [25,29]. The PSFS has been cross-culturally adapted to different languages and cultures, such as Brazilian, Swedish, Japanese, Nepali, Finnish, and Turkish languages [30][31][32][33][34][35][36].…”
