Cross‐cultural adaptation of a pre‐school screening instrument: comparison of Korean and US populations

Abstract: In general, the ASQ was translated with cultural appropriateness in mind and functioned as a valid and reliable parent-completed screening test to assist in early identification of young children with developmental delays. Further research is needed to confirm these results with a larger and more diverse Korean sample.

“…These cut-off scores had to be used initially because this was the first time the ASQ had been used in Galicia. Although these Galician data are cautiously promising, there should be further research using Galicia-determined cut-off scores as was previously done in Norway (Richter & Janson, 2006), Taiwan (Tsai, McClelland, Pratt, & Squires, 2006) and Korea (Heo, Squires, & Yovanoff, 2008).…”

“…It is designed to be administered at 6-month intervals. The ASQ shows high levels of consistency, reliability, validity, and specificity (Squires, Bricker, & Twombly, 2004;Squires, Bricker, Heo, & Twombly, 2001) and has been used for early development assessments in numerous low-income and middle-to-low-income countries (Handal, Lozoff, Breilh, & Harlow, 2007;Heo, Squires, and Yovanoff, 2007;Tsai, McClelland, Pratt, & Squires, 2006).…”
