CROSS-CORRELATION OF NEAR- AND FAR-INFRARED BACKGROUND ANISOTROPIES AS TRACED BYSPITZERANDHERSCHEL

Abstract: We present the cross-correlation between the far-infrared (far-IR) background fluctuations as measured with the Herschel Space Observatoryat 250, 350, and 500 μm and the near-infrared (near-IR) background fluctuations with the Spitzer Space Telescope at 3.6 and 4.5 μm. The cross-correlation between the FIR and NIR background anisotropies is detected such that the correlation coefficient at a few to 10 arcminute angular scale decreases from 0.3 to 0.1 when the FIR wavelength increases from 250 to 500 μm. We mo… Show more

“…This has been demonstrated in multi-wavelength cross-correlation studies that provide further constraints for theoretical models of both low-z and highz sources (e.g. Cappelluti et al 2013;Thacker et al 2014). Additional information on the physics and evolution at early times would come by looking for correlations between the CIB and 21 cm maps (Fernandez et al 2014;Mao 2014).…”

“…Matsumoto et al (2011) find no correlations of the AKARI source-subtracted diffuse maps with the AKARI far-IR data at 100 µm. Thacker et al (2015) claimed a cross-correlation of Spitzer data with diffuse maps from Herschel at 250, 350 and 500 µm. The Spitzer data at 3.6 µm, with a 0.1 hr net integration depth, was repixelized at the common resolution of 6 ′′ , leading to both significantly larger removed sky and greater shotnoise (i.e.…”

“…We also examined the near-IR and far-IR cross correlation using the PolSpice analysis Planck is shown in figure 15. The fluctuation seems to have smooth connection with Herschel 350 µm one (Thacker et al 2015) toward smaller angular scales.…”

“…Note that the Spitzer (3.6 µm) spectrum is scaled to the IRTS 2.2 µm under the Rayleigh-Jeans assumption for the comparison. According to the measurements at sub-degree scale by Thacker et al (2015), about half of the near-IR background can be explained by dusty, star forming galaxies, and the residuals can be explained by the IHL.…”
