“…Keeping the CWSI between the critical points for Tr decline and for Pn decline was an ideal for higher leaf water use efficiency. The significant negative correlations between CWSI at 14:00 and relative soil moisture contents (θ/θs) were same with the results reported in previous studies (Wang et al, 2005;Paltineanu et al, 2009;Paltineanu et al, 2012;Cao et al, 2013). In present study, we also found slight differences between the correlations based on data measured under different VPD conditions.…”

“…The precision of the determinations increase with increasing VPD, and data obtained at low VPD values should be avoided. Unlike other fruit tree species from southern Romania, i.e., apple (Paltineanu et al 2007) and peach (Paltineanu et al 2013), grown further from the sea climate influence and where Tc-Ta differences were higher, the present study has shown that Tc-Ta cannot increase to higher values, probably because of the daily soft breeze bringing wet and fresh marine air into the orchards. Lower Tc-Ta differences have also been noted here between the values obtained in both aspect graduations, i.e., sunlit (south) and shaded (north).…”

“…Ben-Gal et al (2009) also recommended the early afternoon as the best time for image acquisition. The importance of cardinal point or aspect, i.e., sunlit and shaded leaves, has previously been stressed (Leinonen and Jones 2004;Paltineanu et al 2013;Zia et al 2012).…”
