Crop stage classification using supervised algorithm based on UAV and Landsat 8 image

Abstract: Irrigated area has been decreasing since last decade in Indonesia. Surface irrigation scheduling performed predominantly due to water limitation and plant heterogeneity. Plant type and growth phase relate to the performance of water delivery. The research objective is to compare land use classification (LUC) from Landsat 8 and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with supervised algorithm. Supervised method (i.e. minimum distance algorithm) was applied. The result showed six LUC from UAV, i.e.: vegetative stage of dr… Show more

“…In the past, several studies had been based on satellite images to estimate morphology and vegetation properties of salt marshes [6,26,27]. However, due to the limited spatial resolution of the datasets, and the high dependency on atmospheric conditions of these technologies [26,[28][29][30][31], they had been progressively replaced by or coupled with manned or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) [19,[31][32][33]. In particular, due to their rapid technological advancement, UAVs are becoming standard technology for high-resolution coastal [34][35][36] and agricultural [37,38] survey and mapping.…”

“…The timely acquisition of flowering time improves sorghum panicle yields. Hardanto et al [17] compared the land use classification (LUC) from Landsat 8 and UAV using the minimum distance supervised classification method. The results showed that the supervised classification of UAV images was more detailed and more accurate than satellite images.…”

“…It is also enhanced by research from [10], [22], and [23] that monitor supply and demand at each study case of them are using an optimization approach. The statement that supports to use of genetic algorithms from research about machine learning had been said from [24] - [27] [28]. On the other side, talking about agricultural policies that consider production and consumption can be seen from research [4] [29] [30].…”
