Crop Load Adjustment Based on Branch Vigor for Producing Uniform Fruit in Young Apple Trees

Abstract: A series of investigations were conducted to identify an efficient cultivation method for producing uniform fruit in young 'Hongro' and 'Fuji' apple trees through vigor balance control and crop load adjustment at commercial orchards in Pocheon, South Korea, for two consecutive growth seasons (the third and fourth leafy years), namely, the years 2012 and 2013. There was a highly significant correlation between the cross-sectional area of the main stem (the trunk) and those of all the branches emerging from the … Show more

“…The relationship between trunk cross sectional area and tree weight or yield were analyzed in apple [25,26]. In apple, branch diameter was used to draw tree structure [27] and productivity was evaluated with tree vigor balance defined as the ratio of branches to the main stem [28]. In citrus, Hirano [29] used allometry equation to estimate leaf area based on relative growth theory.…”

“…Stability can be achieved for winding resistance change [18] or change of inductance and motor inertia [19]. Also, sensorless control can be achieved in regard to load torque [20][21][22] or rotor speed [23,24]. The aim of this work is to use nonlinear techniques to develop a novel control system for SM.…”

“…Minnis et al predict clear-sky brightness temperature values using ambient temperature and humidity and then excise pixels outside these intervals [30]. Texture cues can be also used to recognize clouds by their high spatial heterogeneity [31]. Martins et al demonstrate that a simple spatial analysis, i.e., the standard deviation of VNIR isotropic reflectance in a 3 × 3 pixel window, reliably discriminates clouds from aerosol plumes over ocean scenes [32].…”
